Jude Siegel

I am most content when I am outside, in nature, relaxed and observant.

Painting gives me joy and solace. It centers and grounds me, and reminds me of what is most important in my life. Whether it is in my journal, or a painting, the process I enter is always fascinating. It is a blend of scientific inquiry, and allowing the quiddity of the place or subject to infuse me. I can relax, connect with my subject, either in place, or with a reference photo, then I can observe and decide what to focus on first. From there, I can make my way to a finished page. Sometimes that takes awhile. I warm up, I try different views or techniques, I figure out colors. I love the entire process, including the challenges that always come up, for it is from them that I learn and grow.
